Abstract
Background: We performed the CT arthrography of the knee with multidetector CT and revealed the usefulness of the CT arthrography in the patients with knee trauma.
Methods: Forty-three male patients underwent multi-detector CT of the knee after intra-articular injection of iodinated contrast media of the amount of 20 ml for the period of six months from May 2001 to October 2001. CT scans were performed with 0.5mm collimation, 1pitch value, and 140-kVp and 150-mA. The images were reconstructed as 0.5mm thickness, 0.3mm increment with UHR 70 kernel. Two-mm thickness sagittal, coronal, transverse and oblique MPR reconstructed images were obtained. Arthoscopy and operation were performed in 12 patients and MRI examinations were done in 8 patients. We analyze the images of the CT comparing with the results from arthroscopy, operation and MRI.
Results: Sagittal, coronal, transverse and oblique MPR reconstructed images were successfully obtained in all 43 patients. There were 24 normal, 4 ACL and medical meniscus combined injury, 1 ACL injury,8 meniscal injury, 3 plica, 1 foreign, 1 medical collateral ligament injury, 1 chondral defect. Among the 12 patients conformed by arthroscopy, there were 2 ACL lesion, 5 meniscal lesion, 2 plica, 1 foreign body in 7 patients, 5 patients were normal. CT shows 100% of positive and negative predictive value. MRI shows one false positive in meniscal tear.
Conclusion: The CT arthrography of the knee with multidetector CT is useful and effective method for examining of the patients with knee trauma.
